New City Waterways Board

The misson of the new board is to act in an advisory capacity to the Ocean Shores City Council, the Mayor, and professional staff of the public works and police departments in the areas of fresh waterways administration and maintenance.

The Board will consist of five members who are citizens residing in the City. No Board member shall receive any compensation for his/her services.

The officers of the OSFWC are very pleased with the ordinance, and believe it will help preserve and protect our fresh waterways system that is so important to the City for storm water drainage, wildlife habitat, and recreation.

Fish Plant

This Spring several volunteers from the city planted 600 lunker trout from the Satsop Springs hatchery into the Duck Lake system. The second of two plants was made just before the youth fishing derby, which made for exciting fishing for the kids. One of the lunkers took first prize.

Canal Weed Treatment

Aquatic weeds had again taken over in many canal locations. Spraying with an aquatic herbicide was successful.

Letter to the Editor

(Published 8/3/11 - The North Coast News)

Branches too low,

I am writing this letter to express my concern about the low hanging branches in the inter-connecting canal. The branches hang so low that they hit people in the face while riding in boats. I believe that the branches need to be cut back and I know that the members of the Ocean Shores Fresh Waterways Corporation are ready, willing and able to trim the branches back if the City authorities will give them permission to do this work.

These low hanging branches pose a significant liability risk in that they could damage the eyes of people riding in boats. Most of these trees are growing out of the City's property. Ocean Shores Fresh Waterways Corporation members have told the City Police Department and Public Works that they would be willing to cut these branches if they could be covered under the City's liability policy, but haven't been able to make progress on this request.
